Dynamic investors have known it for some time: it is far from just real estate that shines. Today, a well-diversified investor’s portfolio includes not only real estate, gold and bonds, but also a few good cases of wine or…whisky. The Macallan Red Collection recently went under the hammer at Sotheby’s for a record amount…
Nearly under a million dollars, $975,756, for a collection of unique bottles of whisky from the Scottish brand The Macallan…You read that right! The amounts are staggering…. And yet these are increasingly common auction prices for the brown gold. To be taken literally this time. The lot went to an anonymous Asian bidder, which of course is often ‘common pratice’ in these kinds of exclusive auctions.

Unique collection hand in hand with charity
In this case, almost $1 million was paid for a very exclusive batch of whisky: The Macallan’s Red Collection. This batch of whisky was distilled several decades ago in the copper stills of the distillery situated on the Spey River. The red colour of the labels is an ode to the historic red of the brand and its founders. The foundation of the whisky distillery goes back to 1824. This collection not only broke the auction mark but also made the oldest whisky age statement ever released by The Macallan and achieved at auction.
To stay completely in the heartwarming Christmas mood, the equivalent of 2.5 million meals were donated to good cause. Or how a great product, speculation and charity can go hand in hand…
