Who says Bordeaux automatically thinks of fine wine ranging from the Cru Bourgeois to the Margaux, Pomerols and Saint-Emilions. Blessed by a mild climate, Bordeaux has all the assets to produce top-quality apples. But when you think of wine, you also think of gastronomy. Since recently, the two can be beautifully combined in the recently opened Restaurant 7 in the new wine experience centre called ‘La Cité du Vin’.
There is no lack of ambition in Bordeaux. Under the mayoralty of former French Prime Minister Alain Juppé, the city has undergone a metamorphosis in recent years. The centre of Bordeaux is more bustling than ever and an impressive museum with an ode to wine has been built on the banks of the Garonne. Juppé backed up Bordeaux’s ambitions by calling this museum his Guggenheim!
La cité du vin has become a beautiful example of modern architecture. Its design is inspired by a large wine decanter. Inside, several floors take visitors on a journey through the history and present-day history of wine.

Rooftop restaurant Le 7
To complete the picture, a ‘sky restaurant’ has been set up on the seventh floor. From here, one has a truly breathtaking view of the city of Bordeaux. But above all, ‘Restaurant 7’ is an ode to gastronomy and wine culture!

By the cooker is the chef Nicolas Lascombes who earned his stripes in the Bordelese hospitality industry. We enjoyed a delicious 3-course lunch with, how could it be otherwise, appropriate wines. As an opener, there was a tasty bite of herring with a fresh Crémant de Bordeaux rosé from the house of Lateyron. Next, we were treated to a delicious soup of butternut squash and foie gras. As the main course, the chef treated us to a really tender braised pork cheek and their winter vegetables. Delicious with the delicious red wine of Château Grand-Maison 2013 from the côtes de Bourg. To end this delicious lunch, we were served a delicious dessert of cheesecake revisited with exotic fruit.
