Puredeluxe x Roermond Designer Outlet
The first rays of spring sunshine give our spirits a boost. For just when the mouth masks and most corona measures could be put on the back burner, even in the Netherlands, spring is in full swing. And with the big spring cleaning at home, we had made room for space in our wardrobe. So we were thrilled when the invitation arrived in the mail to visit the Designer Outlet Roermond. The fact that we could also enjoy Roermond itself was a nice bonus.
When we told our two teenage daughters, aged twelve and fourteen, that we were going on a shopping trip to Roermond, the only question/comment was, “where is Roermond?” With some geographic indication that Roermond is also in Limburg, albeit in the Netherlands, that question was also quickly ticked off.
We ourselves are always excited to be able to go to Dutch Limburg (see also our article https://puredeluxe.be/nederlandslimburg/ on this). Is it due to the fact that this is probably the most trusted part of the Netherlands for Flemish people, or is it just because they are real enjoyers of life there too. Witness the many nice little towns with a vibrant catering scene. What also helps is that you are only about an hour’s drive away in Dutch Limburg. After our little trip, we first checked in at Hotel De Valies in Roermond. This hotel had already charmed us on a previous trip. All the good things were confirmed again, more about that later.

But first things first and so we went on a shopping trip with the girls to the Designer Outlet! For anyone who takes a hotel in the centre of Roermond, the shopping paradise is really within walking distance. In five minutes you are already in the first shop! What struck us immediately is that the Designer Outlet was developed with great care. You get the feeling that you are walking around in a nice shopping area that seems to have been taken from Chelsea in London. You should take a day to get around it all with, of course, the obligatory stops at the shops. The range of luxury brands but with steep outlet prices is huge. Think of the Italo fashion brands Gucci or Armani, but you will also find Dutch luxury brands such as the fashionable shoe brand Floris Van Bommel. No expense or effort is spared to make the shops real experience shops. We were completely captivated by Karl Lagerfeld’s concept store, God rest his soul in the designer afterlife…
But hungry stomachs are also catered for. Whether you want a quick snack or sandwich or a more extensive lunch, everything is possible! For dessert, our kids went crazy for the delicious donuts from ‘Dunking Donuts!

Back from our day of shopping, we checked into Hotel De Valies. This hotel has the style of an American diner completely carried over. We were given a spacious double room with ditto bathroom, finished with the finest materials. The beds here are very comfortable and ensure a refreshing night’s sleep!

Before we got to our beds, we went for dinner in the city centre. With our family group, we opted for the ‘Beren‘. This fine bistro is very tastefully decorated and pays a lot of attention to the kids, both in the menu and the service. We enjoyed a delicious and honest three course evening menu where everyone could find something to his liking!

The next day we were again looking forward to the breakfast at De Valies. The fresh rolls, fruit salad and pancakes are a smile on every guest’s face. Here you leave the table with a smile, including a glass of bubbly! Before checking out, our kids could have fun in the kids playground with a real ball pool, game room and cinema room for the kids! Great!

Time to set off under the bright sky towards the centre of Roermond. The centre is rather small, but we were nevertheless pleasantly charmed. And we were totally moved by the sight of theSt Christoffelkathedraal dating from the fifteenth century. This Late Gothic church has beautiful architecture and stained-glass windows! Just as we entered the church, a service started with disciples preparing to start their journey to Santiago de Compostella.

It was a spiritual and fitting organizing point for our fun, shopping and foodie trip to Roermond!
