Graham’s has had a reputation for producing outstanding Vintage Port for more than a century. These wines are renowned for their remarkable richness, concentration and firm tannin structure: a combination that delivers impressive longevity. The weather in the vineyards is the main determining factor: conditions must be ideal during the growing season and during the subsequent harvest. Graham’s exceptional quality is the result of the unique characteristics of the five vineyards that contribute to the Vintage Port.
The history of Graham’s goes back three centuries. The Symington family, of Scottish, British and Portuguese descent, have been producing port wines in northern Portugal since 1882, over five generations. They combine their passion for the production of fine wines and port wines with a great commitment to this region. Today, ten family members work for the group’s different Porto houses: Graham’s, Cockburn’s, Dow’s and Warre’s as well as their different Douro wine projects – Quinta do Vesuvio, Quinta do Ataide, Altano and Prats & Symington (famous for Cryseia) – and finally also for the new domain in Alto Alentejo, Quinta da Fonte Souto, which was launched in 2017.

Did you know that Graham’s “Vintage Character” Port, now known as “Six Grapes“, was the only brand of Port that former British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill bought throughout his life? It seems he only settled for the best.

Symington Family Estates is one of the leading producers of premium port wines, the family owns the largest vineyard in the Douro, with 26 Quintas covering a total of 2,462 hectares, of which 1,114 are vineyards. Sustainable viticulture is paramount in the vineyards and 130 hectares are managed in organic viticulture, the largest area of organic vineyards in the Douro Valley. The family invests heavily in vineyard research and development to respond to climate change. They have an ambitious sustainability plan, with several goals they wish to achieve under the heading Mission 2025. In 2019, Symington Family Estates became the first Portuguese wine company to become a certified B Corporation, joining a global community of companies audited for the highest standard of social and environmental responsibility, with the conviction that all their activities are for the good.

The mission of Graham’s Port is clear. To make the finest and most durable Port possible. Today, this high reputation is still maintained. Only the cream of the crop is used and the maturing process takes place in oak barrels. The whole process is supervised by experienced and driven Port specialists. As a result, Graham’s Port excels in making the Vintage Port and the old Tawny Port.
Graham’s Port also participated in several international wine competitions. This brought them a total of eight golds, seven silvers and one trophy . This is the highest number of gold medals ever obtained by a Port brand! And that Port wine doesn’t have to be classic, Graham’s proves with its inspiring cocktail recipes.
