David Hasselhoff puts on his legendary Baywatch outfit again
Tomorrow, Friday 22 April, is World Earth Day, a day to reflect on how we can do better with this planet! SodaStream has recruited none other than Baywatch star David Hasselhoff for its Earth Day 2022 campaign! SodaStream remains true to its sustainable mission and the typical humorous undertone of its campaigns. In a nod to his role in the hit 1990s TV series, Hasselfhoff once again plays a beach rescue in the international SodaStream campaign. Only this time he shows how to save sea turtles.
As part of the fight against disposable plastic waste, to prevent it from ending up in the oceans, SodaStream is partnering with SEE Turtles, an NGO that works to protect sea turtles worldwide. Without them, the ecosystem would be severely disrupted.

“SodaStream is constantly striving to find solutions to protect the environment and the planet even better”, said Johan Schepers, General Manager SodaStream Benelux. “This year we are taking it one step further with the biggest Earth Day campaign to date, which will run throughout April. So at SodaStream we are actually celebrating ‘Earth Month’. With this campaign, we are not only encouraging people to save the oceans from disposable plastic waste, but also giving them the chance to save endangered baby sea turtles around the world.”
“I am honoured to join SodaStream in the fight for the environment and to draw attention to the threat to sea turtles and our beaches,” says American actor David Hasselhoff. “This is a cause I strongly believe in. I hope we can put this urgent issue on the agenda worldwide. It’s great to be part of this initiative – ‘SodaStream Rocks’! SodaStream’s Earth Day campaign is needed to draw international attention to the importance of caring for our planet. Each of us has to take his or her individual responsibility for a more sustainable world. Doing nothing is not an option.”
“SEE Turtles is excited to partner with SodaStream to save baby sea turtles around the world and reduce the consumption of disposable plastic”, said Brad Nahill, CEO of SEE Turtle. “Through our ‘Billion Baby Turtles’ program, SodaStream’s support will help conservation programs on more than 20 key nesting beaches in 16 different countries.”
Other SodaStream initiatives for this Earth Day:
- SodaStream is sticking to its previously made pledge, on last Earth Day, to avoid as many as 78 billion disposable plastic bottles by 2025.
- As additional support for this broad campaign, SodaStream is launching a unique VR experience, where anyone can help their own virtual baby sea turtle reach the ocean safely. David Hasselhoff was the first to take part in the challenge. Play along via Sodastream.be.
- Finally, on 22 April, SodaStream co-workers around the world will be going the extra mile to promote the sustainable mission to younger generations. Belgian and Dutch SodaStreamers will help clean up plastic waste.
