Ready for a refreshing swim? Hendrick’s Gin takes you on a wondrous journey under the sea with its new gin Hendrick’s Neptunia. On the occasion of the launch of the limited edition Neptunia gin, we attended the Wondrous World of Hendrick’s Gin event at Antwerp Zoo. Here we followed a fresh sea breeze and the singing of a mythical siren who took us to an underwater kingdom where the secrets of this gin were revealed.
Travel under the sea
On arrival we were greeted with a nice glass of Hendrick’s Neptunia fizz and saw a spectacular flying mermaid. Moments later, she was joined by a sea urchin and the servant of the ocean king. They were our guides during the long tour of various sea creatures that led us to an underwater kingdom. The closer we got to this kingdom the louder the siren’s song sounded. Finally the gate opened and we saw the king and queen of the sea, surrounded by the seaside botanicals that give this gin its unique flavor. The lake people then danced a ritual dance to add extra flavor to the gin, but the Neptunia gin experience isn’t truly complete until you catch a glimpse of a swimming mermaid.
Neptunia
Hendrick’s Gin has a signature flavor combination that includes cucumber, rose and a soft citrus finish. When you combine this iconic flavor with a fresh sea air and a touch of mystery you get Hendrick’s Neptunia Gin. This limited release comes straight from a cabinet of curiosities and is the first maritime Hendrick’s Gin. The creation of Lesley Gracie (master distiller) is as refreshing as its muse, the mighty waves lapping the Ayrshire coast. The gin is infused with an exquisite blend of local botanicals from the coastal region and is the perfect base for a sea cocktail, you can drink this with or without a bizarre costume.
Collaboration
To celebrate this new gin flavor, Hendrick’s Gin decided to collaborate with Belgian artist Sammy Slabbinck. For this collaboration, Slabbinck created six NFTs that embody the essence of the unusual and innovative Neptunia gin. This month only, three copies of each NFT are available for €450.00 each. The proceeds from this collaboration will go to the charity, Project Seagrass. The 18 lucky owners will receive a printed copy of their NFT in addition to these crypto artworks. Project Seagrass
Hendrick’s Neptunia Gin has partnered with the charity Project Seagrass. This organization is dedicated to researching, restoring and protecting seagrasses worldwide. Seagrasses are a crucial part of the marine ecosystem because they can sequester and store carbon at extraordinary rates. At least 1/3 of seagrasses have disappeared from our seas in the last 40 years, this has a negative impact on our efforts to combat climate change and biodiversity loss.
The donation of Hendrick’s Gin to this organization will cover the basic costs of restoring and protecting seagrass beds and sustainably expanding marine biodiversity worldwide. In addition, new projects will be funded such as a targeted seagrass survey on the west coast of Scotland, where Hendrick’s Gin Palace is located, which will enable the restoration of biodiversity in this region.
Food pairing
At the launch event of Hendrick’s Neptunia, we were not only introduced to delicious cocktails based on the new maritime gin but also to some dishes that paired perfectly with this gin. We tasted dishes such as fregola with celeriac and beet, leek soup and a cream of feta with a gravy of cucumber and basil finished with a crunch of buckwheat. This gin not only goes with savory dishes but also paired deliciously with a sweet dessert such as a chocolate mousse. Each dish combined the signature flavors of the Hendrick’s gin with the silver, fresh flavors of the sea.
