Today, in charming Bergen, the in Belgium, Michelin stars were awarded for the second time in a row. It is always an exciting moment for the chefs. Some fear losing a star, others are driven by the hope of moving up a culinary ladder. It was an afternoon full of surprises with, as the icing on the cake, a brand new three-star restaurant for Belgium: Boury in Roeselare
The expected unexpected: the new 3 star is called Boury
Who comes out of the blue with the name of Tim Boury has been under a Kalahari rock for the past few years. The West Flanders chef, who was trained by Sergio Herman, among others, had already cooked up a magnificent culinary career, including the title of Chef of the Year at Gault Millau 2017 and the first Michelin stars that were quickly won. Today, he and his team put the crowning glory on the, undoubtedly hard, work. 3 Stars for Roeselare. And totally deserved. We have already paid several visits to Boury and were impressed each time by the reception, the quality of the products used and the way Tim and his team transform these into top dishes. Bruxelles, Bruxelles je t’aime
The big absentee at this year’s election was the Brussels Horeca. Not only was the loss of a star by Comme Chez Soi regrettable, but also the incredible absence of Brussels businesses that managed to steal a new star. Not that there is not good cooking in the capital, on the contrary. Fortunately, one could count on the one and only Yves Mattagne. After a brilliant run at Sea Grill, he obtained his second star for La Villa Lorraine. In any case, the youth of the Brussels catering industry has a godfather to be proud of. We would say: make the most of it!

Usual suspects in a new guise and new fish in the pond
The primal scream of the day undoubtedly came from the lungs of Thijs Vervloet of Colette De Vijvers with the achievement of their second star. Finally some positive news from Averbode after the nitrogen story! Vervloet is bursting with ambition and tries to raise the bar higher and higher for himself and his team. With results!
Finally, the second star of Hertog Jan ‘new version’ stood out. The top duo Gert De Mangeleer and Joachim Boudens reinvented themselves in The Botanic Sanctuary. Meet Hertog Jan top-class in a much more intimate format in a unique location. This audacity was rewarded by Michelin with two stars barely 6 months after opening!
