Viceroy Bali is a fantastic resort on the paradise island of Bali in Indonesia. Located on a ridge with spectacular views of the “Valley of the Kings”, the resort combines Balinese authenticity with ultimate luxury. And the owners – a charming Australian family – do this at an unprecedented level. Witness the many awards, including “#1 Resort in the World” by the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler.
Balinese authenticity & modern luxury
We discover the luxurious Viceroy Hotel just outside Ubud, one of the most famous villages in Bali. The hotel was built on the edge of a hill overlooking the Petanu River and the jungle on one side, and the rice fields typical of Bali on the other. It is one of the most exclusive hotels on the island. Guests can choose from 40 ultra luxurious villas, all with – in addition to a minimum of 150 square metres of floor space – a heated private pool. The spacious rooms are luxuriously and warmly decorated with Balinese artworks, lots of marble and solid wood. Warmth is not only a characteristic of the interior, but also of the managers. The hotel is run by an Australian family and that family character is one of the most typical aspects of the hotel. Not only will you get to know the owners, you will feel like part of the Viceroy family in no time. The team of attentive, professional Balinese staff will help you achieve this.
Gastronomy at the highest level
Gastronomy is of great importance to the Viceroy Hotel. Guests enjoy an excellent breakfast, an internationally flavoured lunch or aBali rice table for dinner in the hotel restaurant Cascades. Gastronomes – both in-house guests and foodies from outside the hotel – quickly find their way to the Apéritif Restaurant, which opened in 2018. This unique spot, led by theBelgian chef Nic Vanderbeeken, grew to become one of Bali’s best gourmet restaurants. Expect refined menus in 6 to 8 courses, where the finest international ingredients are used in dishes that seamlessly fuse classic and modern cuisine.
Exotic pastime
Viceroy has a fantasticinstagram worthy infinity pool that seems to float on the back of the hill. The view of the jungle hill on the other side is enchanting. Monkeys and other exotic animals are regularly spotted, and the latter sometimes dare to come very close. The hotel also has an award-winning spa, the Lembah Spa, which has private treatment rooms, a Jacuzzi overlooking the hills, a cold bath, a steam bath and showers.
In a hotel like the Viceroy, staying “inside” is obvious. Yet it is worth leaving the opulent luxury behind for a while and exploring beautiful Ubud and the rest of Bali. Ubud is considered the cultural heart of Bali and is known for its artistic character. There are also dozens of excellent spas that cost little here by European standards. A little further out, you can choose from dozens of coastal towns including Kuta Beach, Sanur, Canggu and Tanah Lot. Ubud is about an hour’s drive from Denpasar International Airport.
Practical
Staying at the Viceroy Bali can start from about €400 per night in low season. In high season, prices can go up to 1000€ per night and it is best to book in advance.
