Huis ter Duin in Noordwijk is a unique hotel. As one of the first and only destination hotels in the Low Countries, the hotel combines an exceptional gastronomic offer, tradition, authenticity, luxury and wellness with a fantastic location. It is a place where time stood still but at the same time always goes too fast. A weekend, a week, a month: Huis ter Duin never gets boring.
The Balearic Islands by the North Sea

Noordwijk is not yet a well-known beach destination for most Belgians. That is a shame, because there are few places in their own country that can match this Dutch village. The reasons for this are the beautiful, extensive sandy beach of about 13 km long, the surrounding dunes, the vast forests, the low buildings along the coast and the excellent catering facilities. Add to that the good location (about 50 kilometres from Amsterdam), the typically Dutch hospitality and the presence of some top hotels, and you know that it cannot go wrong. In recent years, it is striking how many beautiful beach clubs have opened their doors here. Several of these were clearly inspired by Ibiza. The bohemian atmosphere you find here (especially on sunny days), makes you dream of the Balearic Islands.

Historical landmark
A stone’s throw from the centre of Noordwijk, on the highest dune of Noordwijk aan Zee, is Huis ter Duin. The hotel opened its doors in 1885 and quickly grew into one of the most prominent hotels in the Netherlands. With traditional luxury and gastronomic highlights, the management aimed at the more affluent tourists from the very beginning. Not only have the royal families of Belgium and the Netherlands stayed at the hotel, but Thomas Mann, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Barack Obama and Tony Blair have also crawled under the sheets here.

During a storm in 1990, part of the former hotel burned down. The current Huis ter Duin was then built and divided into two parts: “The Historic” and “Grand hotel Huis ter Duin“. The two parts offer different room types but share the same services and facilities. In total there are now 254 rooms, 20 suites and four penthouses. They are all lush and classically luxurious and have all the five-star facilities and accessories. In terms of views, you have a choice of land or sea view, the latter being the most expensive category. But these rooms are worth the extra cost: the panoramic view over the beach and the North Sea is stunning, and the sunset – straight into the sea – comes free. The sea view suites also have a spacious terrace and are the largest room types. A fantastic luxury experience for those who want more.

Culinary spa
Huis ter Duin has, over the years, focused on two pillars: gastronomy and wellness. For the latter, guests can visit the indoor swimming pool with sauna and steam bath, and the renowned “MC Wellness Centre“. We can also highly recommend the massages: few activities are more relaxing than a relaxing massage after a full day on the Dutch coast.
It’s not just the days that can be filled here. The stomach cannot and will not complain either. When staying at hotel Huis ter Duin, you have the choice of the following restaurants:

- Restaurant Latour: the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, awarded 16 out of 20 points in the Dutch Gault&Millau guide and a Michelin star. Here you can enjoy refined dishes in a classic and inspiring setting with a beautiful view of the North Sea. Chef Marcel van Lier and his team base their cuisine on French cuisine, but bring excitement with international influences. Thus we tasted a creative combination of foie gras with red gamba, incited by the flavours of Thai Tom Kha Kai. Hamachi and eel are combined with leek, buttermilk, radish and shiso. Amongst the desserts, the combination of coffee, pandan, coconut and pineapple is the most memorable. Summer and fireworks on the plate!
- Breakers Beach House: the hotel’s seaside restaurant, located right on the beach. Don’t miss the Breakers oysters, and the seafood plateau is also fantastic. A nice touch are the homemade chocolate bars for dessert.
- At ‘Brasserie la Terrasse‘ you can find brasserie classics with a ‘BLT’ twist. From delicious pastas to juicy pieces of meat or a dame blanche to fill the last holes. Vegetables are playing an increasingly important role in the Brasserie la Terrasse’s cuisine and the vegetable preparations are well worth trying.
- In the Van Diepingen Lounge, located at the entrance of the hotel, you can enjoy a cup of coffee withhomemade pastry or an aperitif with snacks a little later in the day.
- Breakfast is served in one of the beautiful breakfast rooms or in the room. In both cases this meal is also spiced up with a view of the sea or the dunes.

Practical
Noordwijk is easy to reach and is about two hours’ drive from Antwerp. A weekend at the coast can also be perfectly combined with a few days in Amsterdam or Rotterdam. You can stay at Huis ter Duin from € 150 per night to more than € 500 per night for the suites.
